Well I got a letter from yourtv.com.au/HWW apologising for it, and a $13.62 refund cheque!

I’ve been pondering what happened to the alarm clock I ordered through the credit cards award scheme. Damn, given the number of dollars I pumped through the card, they should be delivering it by courier, gift-wrapped within a day of ordering, calling me Sir when they do so and handing over a bonus gold bar. ... The other night I had a dream that there was a hole in my thumb. Near the base, a slot about two millimetres long by perhaps five millimetres across. I could look through the hole and see inside my thumb. No blood, but a kind of weird mostly hollow structure, a bit like the inside ... [More]
Laura was her name. It said so on her folder. She was on the train. Writing on her folder. In a very decorative script. Letter by letter. Surreptitiously, another guy and I looked on. As a sentence revealed itself. “I’d kill myself to make everybody pay.” Oh. Dark nails, dark eye makeup, dark clothes. Bag ... [More]
The Matt factor
At a party on Saturday night, in a huddle with Marita, talking to Trish and a bloke walked up and spoke to Trish. He looked familiar. He looked like the bloke we met at Beth’s party a few weeks ago. But it couldn’t be, could it? Nah. This guy had a beard. Did the other ... [More]
Here is my dresser
Well, after the flop of last week’s “Here is my” photo, something a little more socially acceptable (and convenient to snap). The dresser. Ah, the joys of faux-pioneer-style furniture. I’d love to claim it’s not usually this untidy, but it would be a big fat lie. Want to post yours? Link in the Trackbacks or ... [More]
Busy
Was so busy at work today that my tea got cold. Thank goodness the weekend has arrived.
I’m taking them off
Isn’t this cap hideous? It came free with a geek magazine subscription yesterday. I predict a short life in this house, followed by a swift departure by way of the nearest charity bin. Geek stuff follows: Years ago a mob called RSACi (Recreational Software Advisory Council… I forget what the “i” was for, but they’ve ... [More]
Argh
Just discovered that the reason my camera kept complaining about flat batteries was that last time I charged the four of them, the little switch telling the charger how batteries to charge was clicked to “2” instead of “4”.
Toilet trauma
Around the city, mostly in parks, automated public toilets have been popping up in the last few years. Unlike the loos of old, they have self-cleaning mechanisms, so in theory they should be clean — or at least minimally unpleasant. But distrust of the automatic door (and its ten minute timeout) is rife among users, ... [More]
The tyranny of distance
Eight out of eight on the footy tipping at the weekend. Of course, that wasn’t particularly unusual for the round — plenty of rank amateurs with no detailed footy knowledge like me managed high scores. I’m now equal first on one comp (much to Trish’s chagrin), equal second on the other. My DVDs from Amazon ... [More]
Here is the toilet at work. It’s quite stylish actually. Although work is on a public floor of the building, the toilets are locked, secured by carefully guarded keys. Which is a pain sometimes, to be honest — no secrets from your colleagues when you waltz out the door with the key in your hand. ... [More]
Safeway 10 minutes ago
“I’ll see you out in the street!” he shouted. Us shoppers and the checkout chicks and blokes looked on. The man had a huge gash on his head — dried — a dishevelled appearance and a dog chain in his hand. He repeated his threat to an unknown person in the liquor department, as Safeway ... [More]
Friday night, the Deborah Conway mini-concert at Tony & Rae’s. Well done Tony & Rob for setting it up. Just a few songs, but they were a few great songs. Very enjoyable. Tony’s got it described in detail. Saturday night at the Palais Theatre… first the support act, Architecture In Helsinki. Perhaps the best thing ... [More]
Tonight it’s the Deb Conway gig at Tony & Rae’s house. Saturday the Belle & Sebastian concert. S’gonna be a very musical weekend. But on a completely topic, down at Southbank, by the same people who did the Doctor Who drawings, are the good Doctor’s 6-7pm ABC stablemates… The colours might be a little skewed ... [More]
The terrorists who weren’t
More teenage funsters on the train this morning. What is this, the school holidays? They got into the rear cab of the train, and apparently found the button to work the microphone, if nothing else. A very half-hearted attempt to do the impersonate-the-terrorists bit. Too much swearing to be plausible. Rather than “You f—ing motherf—ers, ... [More]
