Old photos from April 2016

Continuing my catch up of old photo posts from ten years ago, here’s April 2016… okay plus a few from March 2016 – I’m discovering that my filing of photos back then was imperfect.

Level crossing works had started in Bentleigh. This local shop wasn’t happy the disruption. After the project was finished, they moved. The whole chain was later bought by Dulux Paints.

Speaking of retail turmoil, the ABC Shop was closing down

Dick Smith was also closing down. It became an online brand of Kogan.

Lonsdale Street in the City; the former Age building at left, about to be replaced by high rise. This fare evasion campaign was prominent around this time, though the bus shelter is obviously older, featuring a Met Bus sticker.

Speaking of Met era, Box Hill Station still had 1980s style CRT screens. The Myki card readers have been swapped over twice in the last ten years.

Next to the City Square, this was early site investigation works for the Metro Tunnel, fully opened ten years later in 2026.
