I’m still catching up on my old photos from ten years ago. Here’s June 2016.

We’d visited Singapore at the start of June for my cousin’s wedding. But via some contacts I also got to look at a construction site for the Thomson-East Coast line.

Back in Melbourne, the local level crossing removals at Ormond, McKinnon and Bentleigh were pressing ahead. This signage at Ormond tried to explain what was going on:

Here’s a snap from a State Government press conference for the ceremonial removal of the boom gates at Bentleigh station. Obviously since then, Daniel Andrews (speaking) has retired from politics; Jacinta Allan became premier and just last week lost that role. Local member Nick Staikos (right) as of this week is Minister for Housing, Building and Precincts, Homelessness and Seniors.

This was the moment Premier Andrews quipped that I should help move the boom gate.

North of Ormond station is a park beside the railway line, which the project used for storage of equipment and materials.

It made for an interesting sight for locals during junior footy training.

Meanwhile in the city in William Street, which was a busy cycle route well before the protected bike lanes were eventually provided in late 2019.

Bad picture, but an illustration of timetable padding. Citybound train arrives at South Yarra three minutes early. Less obvious as drivers seem to have been told to stick to schedules, but still an issue.

Remember when Myki vending machines would spit out receipts whether you wanted them or not?

This vending machine only provides bits of paper people want: the photo booth at Flinders Street Station, which is still running.

Finally, this was the view from Collins Street at the northern end of Market Street, after National Mutual Plaza had been demolished, but before the Collins Arch (aka “pantscraper”) building was started.
