Touch wood

Since I set off the bug bombs last week, I’ve found no live cockroaches in the house, save for one that stowed away from the mailbox in a pile of junkmail.

A few dead ones have been found, mostly outside the back door, perhaps trying to escape. And last night I found a dead hairy spider on the livingroom floor, covered in ants. Yeuch.

Still, 9 days cockroach-free. Touch wood.

I think we’re going to have to think along bug-bomb lines, although I am reluctant with two toddlers in the house. Killed 2 roaches in the shower yesterday (one of the little bastards scuttled towards my foot as I got in, my kids thought the ensuing hysteria was great fun). Also captured one climbing up the curtain in the lounge last night, and very cruelly took it outside to meet a bad end – my dogs love chasing scuttling things, and bit it in half within a minute. Three in 24 hours is enough to make me queasily certain that we’re gonna have a situation shortly if we don’t act.

Kathy, take a look at the small print on the can the next time you’re in the supermarket (or browse around here). I used a Mortein DIY Control Bomb (one per major room). They apparently have a special cockroach-specific product, though I haven’t seen that in the supermarkets.

Peter, have had bait out for a couple of months now. At first it was disappearing fairly rapidly. This slowed down, and in the past few weeks no bait has disappeared, and traces of mouse activity seem to have vanished.
