It’s Christmas party season. But with increasing numbers of parties and bookings, some of them are creeping backwards into November. My major work function was a full month before Christmas.
Apart from the usual dinners and so on, the word on the street is that lawn bowling is the new boat cruise. Perhaps the Crackerjack repeats on the TV have got bowling into the consciousness of the party-loving populace. Plus they’ve realised boat cruises are too restrictive — nobody can make an early break for it if they need to leave.
Maybe next year it will be something else yet again.

Yeah, my work is having our Xmas party at “Fitzroy and Victoria Bowling Club Inc” in a coupla weeks.
Which is handy, as my older daughter can tag along with me (she will have finished school by then). Something I couldn’t have done on a booze cruise.
We had a work do there and it was heaps of fun and the food wasn’t all that bad either for the price we paid per person. I was very surprised by the number of people there playing. It’s obviously more popular than I thought it would be. We even got a little tutorial thrown in with the deal. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it Daniel.
I’m not going to any bowling parties this Christmas, but I did go to one last year. You’re right, it was a lot of fun.
For whatever reason, probably the perception of it being an “old folks” game, I swore I’d never have anything to do with lawn bowls…
Yet, last year, I went to a Christmas function that was lawn bowls… great barbecue, great company, great drinks, and… to my surprise… not only an absolutely great time but my team came out overall champs!
I’ve been pleaing for that particular Christmas function to be lawn bowls again this year, but I think they’re leaning toward tenpin bowling… won’t be the same :(
Yep – one of the teams at our work went to a lawn bowls club!
and all at genuine 1975 prices
