Went out for a walk

I went out for a walk, and came back with shorter hair.

You know those things in barbers shop windows, like key rings and tobacco paraphenalia and obscure hair products? Always an entertaining mix of product genres. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody glance at that stuff, let alone buy any of it. Nobody buys it. Most of it looks like it’s been there for about 20 years. It’s just for decoration. They have to put SOMETHING in the window.

Well today while I was waiting for a haircut a couple of guys came in and asked to look at the ashtrays. The special ashtrays with the fiddly metal bits on the top. How would I know what they’re for? Anyway these guys took the trouble to closely examine a couple of ashtrays. The lady (Mrs Barber) told them they were $9.95 for the small, $11.95 for the medium, and for the really super-dooper extra heavy smokers, $13.95 for the large.

I was in such stunned surprise that anybody would be paying any attention to the stuff in the barber shop window that I didn’t even notice if they bought one.

Somehow I doubt it. I’m sure if that had happened, the barber and Mrs Barber would have either fainted in shock or been whooping for joy.
