I was 25 when I first had kids. One outcome of this is that my eldest son’s education is running 25 years after mine.
The dates don’t match up completely — the main event, the English exam, for me was on 7th November 1988. For this year’s VCE, it’s today.
Good luck Isaac, and all of the other 43,000 students sitting the VCE English exam today.
(Though if any of you are reading this before the exam, I’d question your priorities!)

I’m so glad that all my kids are past that stage now.
Somehow, though, I’m not sure we’re doing the right thing by our kids. 2 years of VCE and none it prepares them for life an Uni, if that’s where they go afterwards.

Not sure I agree with PaulK.
For example, if you are studying 1st year science at uni, then a good grounding in maths at VCE is essential (and in fact compulsory in most cases).

The uniform is still the same, but we have come a long way with the ID cards.
Only four subjects? I did the same subjects, and added in Physics. Anderson scores encouraged that, because they were calculated as your three highest subjects, plus English, plus 10% of each of your remaining scores – so if you wanted insurance you’d take the fifth subject on the assumption that if one subject totally tanked, you’d be covered. Of course, the extra load of a fifth subject could bring down all your results, so… ummm… anyway, I did five.
@Josh, I started the year doing Maths B, and totally tanked midyear – managed to convince the powers that be I should drop it.
English was compulsory, otherwise I would have done just STEM subjects.
@Daniel I failed English half-year. That was my wake-up call; as Mike says, that subject was compulsory, so my carefully constructed insurance policy was for naught. Me fail English? That’s unpossible!
I would have done Maths B, but apparently you can’t do it without Maths A, where I had a weaker year 11 score. So I dropped my stronger maths subject so I could continue with my weaker one. [shakes head]
