Running late

One day I’ll get the whole get-out-of-bed-and-out-of-the-house thing figured out.

If I want to get the kids to school by 8:50, we need to leave by 8:40.

If we need to leave by 8:40, I need to be getting dressed by 8:25.

If I need to be getting dressed by 8:25, I need to be in the shower by 8:20.

If I need to be in the shower by 8:20, I need to start shaving by 8:15.

If I need to start shaving by 8:15, I need to be putting lunches together and packing bags by 8:05.

The other day it all slipped by about 10 minutes. I’m not sure why, if I’m shaving at 8:25, it’s not apparent to me that we’re going to be late if I don’t get my arse into gear. I think perhaps subconsciously that my brain reasons that shaving, showering, dressing etc are all so easy that I should be able to get through them super-fast without even trying.

I have recently turned 36 and am still completely staggered that anyone could possibly fit in time to have breakfast before leaving the house to get to work!!! I am the same as you, except minus the shaving & kids and plus hair & makeup & feeding the cat. The morning is 5 minute allotments on a flow chart and breakfast is something you do at work!

You need only 5 minutes to shower? Do you have a time machine?
I have to get up at 05:15 to have any chance of bringing my kids to the bus stop by 06:45….

Ken: Five minutes is plenty of time for a shower, especially with water restrictions on that recommend a four minute limit.

Ren: It’s true; I am blessed with flexible working hours (and after-hours extra time from home if I need to)

Doesn’t matter how much on time I am to leave the house, once I’m at the station it always seems to go awry. Has the Frankston line been especially bad this week or is it just me? I’m sick of waiting then being sardined both to and from work…
