Amusing sight the other morning: a group of tourists lining up along a tram stop platform in Flinders Street to take photos of a passing fire engine, zooming by with lights and sirens blaring.
Sorry, I didn’t get a pic of them. I admit, I’ve done similar in foreign cities. It’s what’s different about every day life which is interesting when being a tourist.

Daniel, they were probably from a place where you need a full bladder before attending a fire ;)
That sounds like suspicious behaviour to me; they were probably terrorists. Why didn’t you call the hotline?
Maybe they were taking photos of what was behind the fire – engine. Or, perhaps, they were a new-breed of transport-spotters.
Quite off topic, but it was suggested to me that I might go to you for a statistic I’m looking for. If you have any idea where I can find a stat that shows whether car usage is increasing faster than can be explained by population growth in Melbourne. Any help would be much appreciated.
Oskar, one indicator is in the last state budget papers, which show the measure of proportion of trips by public transport has dropped from 8.8% to 8.6%. Budget paper 3 (page 378).
