Julian O’Shea: Maps

It’s April, a time for Easter eggs and of course it’s also Comedy Festival time. I went along to Julian O’Shea’s latest show: Maps.

He’s playing at the Crowne Plaza, and ironically we could have done with a good map, as navigating your way there on foot isn’t easy at the moment, with works galore on that section of Spencer Street.

If you’ve seen his previous shows, or his online videos, the format is familiar. This time he’s covering maps and a myriad of adjacent topics.

These include time zones, map projections (you might remember this from The West Wing, but there’s a local twist I did not expect), car brain, some of Melbourne’s favourite bridges (you can guess one that features prominently; it’s not far from the venue), local history, Melbourne projects that might have been… quite a few things I’ve discussed in this blog over the years – and many I haven’t – but all presented in a much funnier way of course.

Lots of laughs and you might learn something too. Another great show from Julian. Definitely recommended!

It’s on at the Crowne Plaza until 12th April. Details/book here.

A bonus: a great piece of merch is available – pictured here with another great map – but oops I’ve covered up Julian’s face.

Thanks to Julian for the invitation. Get along to the show, and check out his videos on Tiktok, Instagram or YouTube.

I worked in the area for a couple of months and knew the way around the back and up the car ramp. Due to the technical delays I didn’t end up getting home until late though.

oooh … a collision of many of my favourite topics, sounds like that might be a fun night …
