Just a quick post, because I can’t believe the end of the year has raced up like this.
My favourite things of 2024?
- Thursday Island and Far North Queensland trip, chasing down ancestors, exploring new places. Wonderful.
- Watching my sons growing up and kicking goals in their adult lives
- Despite being busy, having the time to do some good PTUA stuff and also to indulge my interests (a post or two on this soon)
EDIT: Forgot to say, perhaps the most notable PTUA-related thing this year was this ABC Radio Conversation Hour segment about railway stations. Notable because it was different – long form, and I was in the studio for it.
Resolutions? One is that I’m going to try to blog more next year. No promises though.
Hope you’ve had a good 2024, and Happy New Year for 2025!

Happy New Year!! Just arrived at the Opera House to perform opening night of opera season; crowd control v.good and trains running smoothly (skipping Circular Quay until midnight). Thanks for taking us on your trip to FNQ; very best wishes for 2025 from a Toxic Custard fan đĽłđ
Loved reading your FNQ stories. Happy 2025.
Thanks for the photography, prose and perspectives in 2024. Looking forward to plenty more in 2025.
Happy new year Daniel.
Thanks for your efforts again in 2025.
Just wanted to share this transport story with you in case you missed it: https://www.9news.com.au/videos/national/how-to-get-to-the-australian-open/cm5nljko700010io8k2g3ry45
Lasers look very interesting but I’m not sure how they will use them.
